Gus update. (FYI- Bloody Pic of Horse Injury)
So I have been missing lately. Things have been a bit crazy around here.
So let me start off with the drama the week before Christmas with the Gus-Jumping-The-Fence story. Gus was out with Rocky and I got a call from neighbor- he just said that one of my horses was out, turns out it was Gus. So I piled on clothes (it was freezing) and rushed out there. So I grabbed a halter and slipped it on him. Then as I was leading him to a dry patch where I could check his legs over I noticed some bloody snow. Oh crap. So I get him to the dry patch and check all of his legs. All were fine except for his left front. It basically looked like someone had tried to slice off the back of his fetlock. So I called his owners and we got the vet on the phone. Then we loaded Gus up and took him into the vet. He got 7 mattress stitches after a lot of cleaning, it was wrapped, we got him back in the trailer and headed home. That was the Wednesday before Christmas. So on Sunday per the vets insructions we pulled the bandage and all of the stitches had popped. So we called the vet again and he headed out. A ball- no kidding a BALL of granulation tissue had formed underneath the top flat and had grown so quickly that the stitches were ripped out. This is a picture taken that afternoon:
As you can see as you look at the flap on the back something it pushing it away from the leg and that was the golfball sized ball of granulation tissue. So Gus ended up having surgery on Christmas Eve morning and they put in stitches with buttons. That wrap was to stay on a week but by Friday it had slipped down and we had to cut it off. The stitches had popped again and so we had the vet out yet again. He just cleaned it up and trimmed the tissue that was no good and it is to be kept wrapped with rewrapping every day. It is looking MUCH better and I will get some new photos soon.

Ouch, Poor Gus!
Oh, dear. When I got my Tucker he'd had an injury on front of his fetlock and the granulation tissue was nearly baseball size. ( I will not go into why it hadn't been properly treated.) It took weeks of wrapping, vet scraping, etc. (and he was at my friend's house so she had to do it) before it finally healed. Now, all there is is a little scar.
Hopefully Gus will heal up as well, or even better. Since it's in a moveable area the proud flesh grows in pretty quickly.
Oh sick. If I get a horse, you will help me with horrifying experiences like this, correct? I'm not badass like you.
