FREEZING NIGHT
Here in the Midwest I went from pulling blankets yesterday because it was above freezing to re-blanketing (with fleece blanket liners) tonight. Yesterday it got up to 42 degrees, right now it is -15 with the wind chill and it will go down to -25 before the night is over. I bedded stalls down with some extra shavings and gave everyone an extra slice of hay. I will go out again about midnight and give them each another slice to keep their tummies a little warmer.
I have recently discovered an eventing blog called Eventing-A-Gogo! which I LOVE. I have been learning loads. Although most of the time I think I know a decent amount about horses I always love finding things I don't know. Last weekend she posted a blog about bran that I found very helpful, Baby's First Tummyache. I always knew that just throwing a big bran mash in wasn't the brilliant idea that many people think it is for all the obvious reasons but Andrea actually goes into detail on why. Check out her blog- you won't be disappointed.

:D I'm so flattered! Glad you found it helpful - sometimes I get a bit preachy but when it's about something that could probably actually do more harm than good, I really like being able to get the word out if I can.
Very interesting about the mash. When I feel the need, I usually wet their pellets into a mash and add just a bit of bran. Guess I will leave out the bran from now on.
As for my tree and your comment on my blog? Don't be too impressed. The tree is an artifical fiber optic version with no ornaments, just the lights. My cats are far too frisky to do a lot of dangly decorations. All I do is set the thing up in its little tree stand.
